Brief Profile:

Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Aggarwal pursued his medical education at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where he earned his Masters in Surgery (MS) and subsequently completed a Senior Residency. He also undertook a one-year Research Fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, USA, and spent four months at Homerton University in London, UK, as a Commonwealth Fellow, specializing in Bariatric Surgery. Since 1999, he has served as a Faculty member in the Department of Surgical Disciplines at AIIMS and led Surgery Unit II until June 2024. He is recognized as the leading Bariatric Surgeon in Delhi.

Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep is a distinguished Laparoscopic, Bariatric, GI, and Renal Transplant Surgeon in Delhi, boasting over 30 years of surgical expertise. He chairs the Institute of Bariatric, Minimal Access, GI, and Robotic Surgery. Dr. Sandeep is acknowledged globally as a pioneer in Bariatric surgery, having developed and advanced this specialty within the public sector in India through his outstanding clinical and research contributions. He has successfully conducted over 1300 bariatric surgeries, more than 400 renal transplants, and over 10,000 laparoscopic procedures, including complex GI surgeries, adrenalectomies, splenectomies, and hernia repairs.

Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep is an active researcher with over 140 publications and numerous book chapters to his name. He is a committed educator, having trained many residents and fellows, performed live surgeries at various workshops, and delivered more than 200 invited lectures at national and international conferences. Dr. Sandeep holds editorial roles in several prestigious journals, including Editor of the Journal of Minimal Access Surgery (JMAS). He has been featured as an expert on various Doordarshan health programs and is frequently cited in both print and electronic media regarding bariatric surgery topics. Dr. Sandeep has participated as a Convenor or member of several expert committees. He received the Best Researcher Award from India.
