Mumbai serves as a hub for quality medical care, not only throughout India but also in South Asia. It is a city with a rich medical heritage. Located in South Mumbai is the Bombay Hospital and Medical Research Centre, which stands as the medical nucleus of India’s largest metropolis.

Founded over seventy years ago in 1952, the Bombay Hospital emerged from the significant philanthropy of Shri Rameshwardas Birla, the Founder Chairman of the Bombay Hospital Trust. It started as a 440-bed facility with the mission, as articulated by its founder, "to provide the same level of service to the underprivileged that the affluent would receive in a reputable hospital."

Currently, the hospital has expanded to accommodate over 830 beds, equipped with some of the most advanced diagnostic and surgical technologies, and offers a wide array of specialized medical services. Nevertheless, the core objective remains unchanged. This is evident as 33% of the patients treated are in the general ward, with costs heavily subsidized. The free outpatient department (OPD) at the hospital successfully serves more than 100,000 patients annually.

Since its inception in 1952, the Bombay Hospital has fostered a profound sense of trust among its patients. This trust has been cultivated through a combination of exceptional medical care and a compassionate, humane approach. Consequently, over two lakh individuals confidently enter its esteemed doors each year, consistently.

It is upon this solid foundation that the hospital has built its commitment to excellence across all areas of medical specialization. This commitment has materialized in the establishment of the Medical Research Centre, now referred to as the M P Birla Medical Centre.

The Bombay Hospital currently ranks among the premier multi-specialty tertiary medical centers in the nation. The internationally acclaimed panel of doctors and specialists in every area of expertise have access to state-of-the-art equipment, supported by a highly skilled and professional nursing staff. It is no surprise, then, that the Bombay Hospital draws patients from all walks of life. Whether it is a
