Brief Profile:

Dr. Atul Wadhwa obtained his Master's degree in Surgery from the University of Rajasthan in 1999. Subsequently, he began his career at Safdarjung Hospital as a Registrar. After completing the necessary training in this role, he enrolled in a Fellowship Programme in Minimal Access Surgery, guided by the esteemed Padmashree Dr. P.K. Chowbey at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Throughout his fellowship, he acquired extensive experience in both basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery. Additionally, he trained under the distinguished Prof. Alferd Cuscheri in Dundee (UK), specializing in Upper GI Laparoscopic Surgery. Dr. Wadhwa has contributed to numerous publications in respected international and national journals and has been honored with the Best Paper Award from Surgical Laparoscopy Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques. He has also authored several chapters in books focused on Minimal Access Surgery. Furthermore, he has had the privilege of being a speaker at various national conferences. Dr. Wadhwa is an active member of both national and international associations dedicated to laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery. His interests encompass abdominal surgery, covering a wide range from minimally invasive hepatobiliary, colorectal, to bariatric surgery. He has successfully performed various procedures, including basic cholecystectomy, CBD stone removal, laparoscopic repair of all types of hernias (inguinal, ventral abdominal, and hiatus), laparoscopic appendicectomy, laparoscopic resections of both small and large intestines, and laparoscopic surgeries on the spleen, pancreas, and liver, including laparoscopic rectopexy, in addition to obesity and metabolic surgery.

Dr. Wadhwa is married to Dr. Bharti Wadhwa, an anesthesiologist and intensivist, who currently serves as an Associate Professor at MAMC, New Delhi. He is also a founding member of ACMOMS (Asian Consensus Meeting on Metabolic Surgery).

Moreover, he holds the world record for performing the highest number of bariatric surgeries in a single day (sixteen), as recognized in the LIMCA BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS.
