Dr. Akshay Tiwari serves as the Head of Musculoskeletal Surgical Oncology at the Max Institute of Cancer Care, located within Max Superspeciality Hospital in Saket. He is a fellowship-trained Musculoskeletal/Orthopaedic oncologist with over ten years of dedicated experience in managing patients afflicted with bone and soft tissue cancers. His extensive training in this specialized domain encompasses primary malignant bone tumors, soft tissue sarcomas, aggressive benign bone tumors, and metastatic bone disease. Dr. Tiwari is recognized for establishing the first dedicated Musculoskeletal/Orthopaedic oncology unit in the Delhi-NCR region and has successfully conducted more than 1,500 surgeries focused solely on patients with bone and soft tissue tumors. Notably, he pioneered the implementation of the first Stryker Nav 3 Navigation system for orthopedic oncology in India at the Max Institute of Cancer Care, Saket.
Dr. Tiwari has received training from prestigious institutions renowned for their excellence in musculoskeletal oncology, including the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute in Italy and Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. He has authored numerous publications and delivered presentations on musculoskeletal oncology at both national and international forums. Additionally, he serves on the editorial boards of esteemed journals in the field of Orthopedic Oncology. His surgical expertise encompasses limb salvage procedures for bone and soft tissue tumors, reconstructive orthopedic surgery, and the surgical management of spinal tumors. As one of the few orthopedic surgeons in the country specializing exclusively in bone and soft tissue tumors, he has developed a particular interest in complex surgeries such as internal hemipelvectomy, extracorporeal radiotherapy with reimplantation of bone tumors, total femur replacement, en bloc resection of spinal sarcomas, and rotationplasty.
